  • Disappointing as he could have probably done 1:58 - a failure in my book - they should have ran 1:55 pace and then if it got too hard slowed down to 1:59. Looked ridiculous a guy almost sprinting and smiling in last 100metres to break sub 2hr mark. If you’re not bent over or panicking for oxygen when finish then you didn’t give it YOUR all.

  • Lets also give some credit to the guys that ran with him. They literally ran a sub 2 hour marathon aswell in tougher conditions than he did. He was protected from the wind at all times.

  • I bet people's mentality played a huge part too as a reason for why no one had run a marathon in under 2 hours. I think if you think it's impossible to do it then your subconsciousness will also slack off a bit from putting in enough effort to actually do it. That would explain why so many ran that other distance in under 4 minutes, after the first guy had done it - it no longer seemed impossible to them.

  • anyone look at his split times? 5k through 35k were all on pace - i presume because of the pace car & pace runners... with a time of 14.2 minutes roughly. But the last 5k was 20.28 minutes. He went 6 minutes slower in the last 5k. if he could have somehow kept the original pace until the end, he would have done it 6 MINUTES FASTER... imagine that... 5k = 14.16 minutes 10k = 14.16 minutes 15k = 14.233 minutes 20k = 14.216 minutes 25k = 14.2 minutes 30k = 14.2 minutes 35k = 14.2 minutes 40k = 20.28 minutes - 6 minutes slower pace for the last 5k!!!!
